It’s a cool 85 here today! Of course, with this low temp, I am continuing the fall theme. My mother-in-law gave me these great placemats which are perfect for this time of the year. I love the harvest colors plus the unexpected stripe of purple.
I love to use The Friendly Village this time of year. Although it can work at any time, the neutral shades work great for fall.
I went through my fall table décor and decided to use these great acorn plates for the top layer.
I also used these pretty leaf plates. I had planned to purge some leaf plates after I bought the ones used here. However, when I got out all of my harvest décor, I actually only had these 2 plates, having forgotten that I had purged the other ones that I once had already. So I am keeping them.
I really wanted to bring out the purple color in the plaid, so I used my purple napkins. My mother-in-law also gave me these napkin rings, which are perfect for the harvest theme.
I wasn’t sure about the purple goblets, but I ended up liking them to put some more purple in the place setting. Next to my Dollar Tree green flutes, I like the pair to put a little more color at the place setting.
I finished the setting off with my San Remo flatware to go with the black in the plaid. If you are wondering about the table covering; this is the standard one that you will see on the majority of my fall tables. I went through my fall table runners, and none of them looked right with the placemats, so I went back to my white tablecloth covered with the brown open weave cloth.
Since none of my table runners would really work, I was up in the air about what to do for a centerpiece. What to do? It seemed like a quick trip to Family Dollar was in order! Because of the colors of the placemats and the straw on the napkin rings, I thought that perhaps I could find some type of scarecrow to use.
Naturally, I found a whole lot more than just scarecrows, but I was able to resist most of it! I did purchase a couple of other items which I will show you later. I actually purchased this cute fall metal bucket at Family Dollar about 3 or 4 years ago, and I brought it out to serve as a vessel for the scarecrows.
I used wire cutters to cut apart the sunflowers and stuck them in some Styrofoam and weighted the foam down with some of my decorative pebbles.
Then I broke the sticks that Mom and Pop Scarecrow are on because they were a little too tall for the arrangement. The sunflowers hide their clothing, but one has on pants and the other a dress, so I call them Mom and Pop. I was pleased with how this arrangement came out. Cost: $5, $1 for 2 scarecrows and $3 for the sunflowers. I already had the bucket and foam.
To continue the purple and green colors, I chose variegated pillar candles in those shades and placed them on my tall candlesticks.
Score! Love this fall table and I hope you do also. So for the next order of business, regular readers know that I am cleaning out table linens to take to my booth because I am out of room. I have made the final decisions on what to purge! OK, are you ready? Drumroll, please….
The purple set (placemats, napkins, napkin rings) is gone.
The pink floral set (placemats, napkins) is gone.
The large plaid set of 4…gone.
This pretty floral bright pink set of 4…gone.
This floral and fruit blue, red, and yellow print set of 4…gone.
The set of 4 red with fringe set of 4…gone.
This tropical print in light blue with some pink, taupe, and green set of 4…gone. A few months ago, I also purged some white napkins with lace edges and a few random napkins that I only had 1, 2, or 3 of.
So my napkin drawer is not packed nearly as tightly as it was, and I love the fact that there is so much space in there. My Sterilite tub that I use for my placemats was in better shape until I bought these placemats and some others I will show you later. So I really need to do some more purging with the placemats, but I think I will wait a couple of weeks. I really don’t feel like making any more of those decisions right now.
As for table runners, I really did not go through them at this time. I still have room for all of them that I have, but it wouldn’t hurt to cull a couple of them. I do know of at least one that I can let go. For right now, I think that I will wait until closer to Christmas time before I purge the runners. I have lots and lots of Christmas runners, and I may want to let a few of them go. Some newscaster said, “And so it is…” I will plagiarize him…that’s what I’m getting rid of and so it is!
Have a great week of decorating and tablescaping!
