Fruit Flavor Plus Business Update

In my current quest to clean out the napkin drawer, I am using some table linens that for one reason or another, I haven’t used in a while. So far, I am keeping the sunflowers and am still trying to decide about the burgundy flowered placemats and napkins. If you’ve not chimed in yet for keep or purge, feel free to do so here. Searching through the napkin drawer, I found these great napkins that are really pretty, but I have not used them lately.

In order to make my decision to keep or not to keep, I pulled them out to use for a tablescape. I like the fruit pattern of the fabric and I decided to pull the red color out as my main color. Looking through my runners, I really did not have one that had the right colors to go with these napkins, so I left the fruit runner from last week on the table. It has some similar colors as the napkins, and an overall fruit pattern to continue the fruit theme.

I chose my red Wal Mart plates on top of my Dollar General placemats. When I use two plates of the same color, I like to put the napkin in between to provide separation between the two plates.

At the last minute, I decided to continue with the fruit theme and layered my vintage Salem china fruit plates on the top of the stack. I love these plates; I got them at an antique mall when I first started tablescaping and have never gotten tired of them.

I chose San Remo flatware and then started looking through my glassware.

None of the colors seemed exactly right, so I decided just to continue my fruit theme some more. These goblets have fruit on them and I decided that the color was ok with the other elements on the table.

For the centerpiece, I chose to continue the fruit motif. I purchased these pretty glittered fruit a few months ago when another vendor was going out of business. I felt like I could get a lot of decorating use out of them. Lately, they have been living in my white Vietri bird bowl on the sofa table, so I just moved it to the dining table.

For candles, I pulled out my green variegated pillar candle from last week and put it on a black stand.

I was also able to find a red votive for my crystal votive holder.

I love my “fruit-flavored” table! I think it is very cheerful and colorful.

However, despite the success of this table, I think I have made up my mind to purge these napkins.

Even though I do love these colors and the fruit pattern, the bottom line is that I just don’t have a lot of different items that are in a similar color scheme.  I had a pretty hard time figuring out what to put with these napkins, as you can tell since the runner and glasses don’t exactly go all that well.

I was beginning to wonder if I was going to be able to actually purge anything, so I am glad to have come to a decision with these napkins.

Now that I have made the decision, I won’t have a hard time letting them go when it comes time to price them and take them to my booth at the flea market.

Speaking of the booth, I mentioned recently that I had made a huge decision to mark down a good bit of stock drastically. I’ve had the sale going on for about 3 days now and am happy to report that I have sold a pretty good bit of stuff.

Even though I barely broke even or even lost a little on some of the merchandise, it feels so good to have that stock out of my booth that it didn’t hurt at all to sell it so cheaply!

I even made some time today to go through some more old stock and mark it down as well. I am hoping and praying that I will be able to sell down a good bit more merchandise in the next few weeks to make room for new items. Keep thinking good thoughts that I will be able to sell, sell, sell, and I will keep you posted!

You made the best of a last use. My napkin drawers are so full, but when I try to get rid of any I can always think of that one set of dishes they go best with.

  2. Beautiful tablescape. I love the goblets and your technique of placing a napkin between two plates of the same color. It’s great that this setting helped you make a final decision about whether to keep or purge the napkins.

    Hi Bev,
What darling fruit napkins. They have inspired you to create this charming tablescape. There is so much you can do with them because of the lovely colors.

Very pretty! I admire your purge of your linens. I keep thinking I will do that but I keep adding instead of subtracting. I am terrible about the “what if I need it?” thing. I like your Salem fruit china.

  5. I’ve been going through my napkins and tablecloths to thin things out. Your table turned out great. I like the way you carried the fruit theme throughout.

  6. So smart to get out your glittered fruit to go with those napkins! I’d keep those napkins, I love them!

Wow, your red plates provide an eye-grabbing pop! I love your colorful fruit table. So fun on these hot days of summer’s end. Cleaning out can really prompt a last hurrah before they’re gone. Thanks for sharing!
