Quiet Memorial Day

I vowed a few posts back to start doing more tablescapes on our kitchen table. Today seemed like the perfect day to do that since just the two of us are here for the day. Even though it is Memorial Day, it is just another quiet day for us, but at least I can make our meal look a little special.

I started with my Dollar General placemats. These are really versatile and great for this time of year.

My square red Wal Mart plates are perfect for today.

To keep the holiday theme going, I stole the American Quilt salad plates from the dining table.

Regular readers know that my kitchen table is small and I usually just do a simple vignette at one end rather than an elaborate centerpiece. I found red and blue pillar candles, put them in clear candleholders, and draped them with the Dollar Tree beads to make them a little sparkly and festive. Of course, I had to steal my salt and pepper shakers from the dining room to complete the look.

The matching napkins, everyday Chateau flatware, and Dollar Tree goblets complete the look. I’m serving a simple casserole and salad today, and this table is perfect for that meal. David is not exactly up to grilling out, so the typical Memorial Day meal is out for us.

Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers for David’s health. The myelogram was not pleasant and quite painful, but actually did not last long, so he could tolerate it. Then he had to lie flat for 2 hours before being dismissed. David’s brother had come and sat with us during that time, so it wasn’t too bad. It isn’t often he and his brother get one-on-one conversation, so I think they actually enjoyed it.

The best thing about the myelogram was whatever drugs they gave him to take the test. They lasted almost 24 hours. He got a long nap Friday afternoon and slept almost the night through Friday night. It was the most he has slept since Easter, and it was wonderful. Of course, that is gone now and he has had two very bad nights with little sleep. But a least he had a small reprieve. We should know the results in about a week, so I will post when I know something. Until then, thanks for the continued prayer for not only his health, but also that the docs will find out the exact problem and know what to do for it.

Very festive, Bev. I love the idea of wrapping the candle holders with beads. I had not read about your husband, but I will now add the two of you to my prayer list.

  2. That’s so cute! I love that you used affordable pieces to make such a stunning set! I would love for you to share it at the weekly party that five bloggers and I host. It’s called Tips & Tricks and it just went live. Hope to see you there! http://www.stringtownhome.net/2015/05/tips-tricks-linky-party.html

A table perfect for the Memorial Day holiday, Bev, I really love your American Quilt salad plates. I wish the best for your husband. I know they are doing remarkable things with fairly non-invasive surgical techniques for back problems, and I hope and pray your hubby fits into that category. Chronic pain can be so debilitating. Let’s hope there are answers soon.
