Memorial Day 2015

I guess I’ve been in some kind of fog, but Memorial Day really did slip up on me. I don’t know why; it’s at the same time every year!

So I finally did a Memorial Day table since I will be pretty busy the next few days. I found this table runner on eBay a few months ago.

My mother-in-law gave me these cute placemats a while back, and this is the first occasion I have had to use them. They are perfect for the holiday.

I like the way that the placemats are supposed to look like a pieced quilt, and my junk shop dishes from last year are called “American Quilt.”

100_9616

I used my Dollar General napkins from last year and topped the dinner plate with the small plate.

100_9617

I love these Target bowls and see a lot of tablescapers pull them out every year just like I do!

100_9622

For glassware, I chose my vintage Ruby Red iced teas and my Dollar Tree blue flutes. Where would we tablescapers be without Dollar Tree?

100_9627

I wanted to keep with the casual, playful vibe, so I chose my Present Time flatware. I do have some blue flatware, but I didn’t like the shade of it with these placemats and plates. It was a little off.

100_9621

For the centerpiece, I started with one of my Spode reproduction pitchers. I stuck in some of the Dollar Tree flags and beads that I purchased a couple of years ago.

Then I found my blue pillar candle and used one of my workhorse candlesticks for it.

100_9626

Aren’t these salt and pepper shakers cute? I actually got these at an after Fourth of July sale at Hobby Lobby last year, so this table is the first time that I have used them.

I enjoyed doing my quick and easy Memorial Day table. Why did I need to do something quick and easy? Why are the next few days going to be terribly busy for me?

Regular readers know that my husband has been down with back problems since Easter, and we think that we are finally getting somewhere working toward a definite diagnosis.

100_9631

We leave early Friday morning; I will be taking him to have a myelogram. It is a diagnostic x-ray that will involve anesthesia and injecting dye into the spinal cord.

100_9630

The neurosurgeon feels confident that this test will show him what procedure David needs to have to solve his problem. This neurosurgeon has done David’s other two back surgeries, and we have complete confidence in him.

100_9629

Even though we know that it will not be pleasant, we are just so glad that the means to an end has finally begun.

100_9628

Therefore, I don’t know when I will post again. I know that I will be swamped at least through Saturday, but I hope I can do a new table Sunday or Monday.

100_9620

We’ve already had a lot of prayers and best wishes through this blog, and we covet your continued prayers for both answers and restored health for my husband.

Looks very festive! I haven’t even thought about a Memorial Day table yet. I need to do that! I hope your husband is able to get some answers soon. I know back pain is awful. My dad is doing so much better since his. I’ll keep you both in my prayers.

    Hugs, Vicky

  4. I can’t get over how great all those pieces look together Bev, it’s like they were made for each other! Super cute and a quilt seems like such a symbol of Americana to me! Have a great Memorial Day, I hope your husband gets some relief soon~

  5. Love this Bev! The holiday slipped in on me too- it’s much earlier than normal I watched my husband go through one disc problem in the 90’s and he had surgery with a terrific outcome. I remember how much agony he was in until it was fixed and there isn’t much you can do for them. Best wishes for your husband and I hope he will be feeling better soon.
