Life’s a Beach

Since I can’t go to the beach, I decided to do a beach-themed tablescape instead. Believe me, the beachy table is not the next best to being there! But I did have fun doing it and used a couple of new purchases as well as some old ones.

I started with this colorful tablecloth. I purchased it at Dollar General last year, and I love the bright blues and pinks in the stripes.

I chose the wicker chargers topped with the polka dot melamine plates from last year. These polka dots and stripes both lend themselves to a few different color schemes.

I tried out a few things and finally settled on these salad plates. I love the peaceful seaside scenes on them; they are appropriately called “Ocean View.”

I found these great small plates with a summer theme on them last week. They were in one of our local antique malls; all 4 were $2.

When I got them home and washed them, the original price tag from one of our local gift shops was still on them. Someone paid $22 for all 4 of them at one point, so I got quite the deal!

For our glassware, I decided to pair my pink goblets with the polka dot tumblers.

I have several different napkin colors that will work with this table. I finally decided on these from April Cornell. The light blue background with pink, red, yellow, and green colors complement the tablecloth.

Last week when I was in Dollar General, I had a great time looking at the summer time décor. I usually like to wait until it goes on sale before I buy anything, but there was so little of it left that I decided to purchase a few things to add to my purchases of previous years. The pink flatware caddy holds blue flatware; last year I purchased the pink flatware and blue caddy.

For the centerpiece, I found these great torches at Fred’s and purchased them on a whim. I think they were $1.50 each and came in several colors. I purchased the pink and blue because I knew that I would be getting out this tablecloth at some point. Beware: they are for outdoor use! I will not use them inside other than for looks. If you are planning an outdoor gathering, I think they would look great on your picnic table. They also have the tall ones that stand up in the ground if you’re interested.

The other elements of the centerpiece were previous Dollar General purchases from years past. I love these beach chair votive holders. The seashell lantern also holds a small votive.

On one corner of the table, I placed the flip flop dishes with their spreaders, also from Dollar General a few years back.

I found this starfish vase on for half price at the end of last summer at…big surprise…Dollar General (really should get a kickback from them, shouldn’t I?). The blue beads were from Dollar Tree a while back and the cylinder…you guessed it, Dollar General.

Last Saturday I worked in our flea market and found this cute little teapot in one of the booths. I have a rule that I don’t tell you what I paid for things that I buy for resale ( I will resell it at some point, just no time soon). Let me just say that it was really, really inexpensive. Really.

I used it on the remaining corner of the table and surrounded it with the Dollar Tree shell plates that I have had for a few years.

I know the table didn’t really need that teapot, but I thought it was co cute and really wanted to use it. I’ll do a different table sometime to showcase it better.

Believe it or not, I still have a few beachy items left that I did not use. I will definitely be doing another beach theme (or 2) at some point in the future.

In the meantime, I will continue to wish that I am on the beach.

But since I don’t believe in wishing my life away, I will be happy and content where I am.

Here’s is wishing happiness and contentment to all of you as well!

This table makes me want to go to the beach. I think the stripped cloth looks a little like a beach towel, so it’s perfect for your beach theme, and I love all of the polka dots. You have some great beach themed tableware, and I really like the way you’ve used it. Well done, Bev. laurie
