Purple Passion II

As regular readers know, I am taking an antiques appraisal course from the Asheford Institute. Since I use the kitchen table as my study base, I temporarily suspended tablescapes in there for a while. However, I mailed in my first test and was told to expect a 3-week turnaround, so I am taking advantage to do a quick tablescape in the kitchen today. By the way, the course material is pretty difficult. I had 3 textbooks to study and learn, and they were pretty intense. I have read about types of furniture from Georgian through Empire, about 230+ years of furniture. I am assuming that the next class will pick up with Victorian. I have identified furniture periods, furniture makers, and types of woods. I have read about types of restorations and ways to profit from selling antiques. I have read about antique knives, swords, guns, and armor. I am glad for this 3-week break before I start the second set of books.

I mentioned in my last post that I purchased some table linens for myself, so they are the basis for this table. I love the shades of violet and purple in these placemats. There are also some beige and cream stripes, as well as a little pink. I fell in love with this set when I saw it at an antique mall.

I knew theses mats would be the perfect background for my purple plates, and they are!

Since I wanted to go all purple and not mix and match today, I decided to layer the napkin between the dinner and salad plates. That way both plates show up and don’t blend into each other.

I used my Chateau flatware.

Of course, I used my purple goblets. However, since there is also a pink thread that runs through the stripe, I was able to use my pink tulip glasses also.

Instead of a centerpiece, I chose my purple variegated candle, and I was done.

I love my new table linens and love this purple table also! I am glad that I purchased this great set, 4 placemats and 4 napkins for $6.

Finally, I want to mention my Internet Stores. Because I have readers ask me about purchasing items from time to time, I set up a page for an Internet Store. I did have a few sales and many inquiries, but I did not have enough sales to merit putting in the time it takes to keep up the Internet Store. Therefore, I am going to officially disband the Internet Store page, but I will continue to sell almost anything that you see on this blog. If you see something that you like, just email me and we will talk about a price. For your information, all of the items on my last post are for sale, with the exception of the Oriental vase. I have already had an inquiry and definite buyer for it. For sets of dishes, I do not mail, but am willing to drive and meet you somewhere (I am in central MS). The only thing that I ask is just a matter of courtesy. After your inquiry, if you decided against the item, just let me know. There have been a few times that I’ve gone to the trouble to figure out the shipping price and price of item, and the person never let me know that they decided not to take it. If I am holding it for someone and someone else inquires about it, I will tell them that the item is no longer for sale. Then weeks will go by and I won’t hear from the first person, so I will have missed a potential sale. But I’m not complaining; most people have been very friendly and easy to deal with. I certainly understand if someone decides against a purchase, and I only have a problem with it if I never hear from them again!
