Booth Update, Bargains, and Table Variations

I actually do have some news to tell you about my booth at the flea market. The owner/manager likes to hire vendors to work, and she recently had some openings and asked if I would like to try it. I have committed to work one Saturday a month through Christmas (one Sat. per month takes care of our booth rent) and to be “on call” if anyone gets sick or has some other type of emergency.

After Christmas, I will reevaluate, but as of right now, I am thinking that I will continue. With only one Saturday a month committed, there will still be plenty of weekends left to visit my son in TN. Plus, the owner is a little short-handed right now, and most of the people who help her don’t want to work on Sat. I don’t mind doing it, so {for now} it has all worked out. A couple of weeks ago I worked my first Saturday. I had to learn the computer program, which did not take long. Taking payments and making change is not much of a problem for me, but it’s been over 20 years since I’ve been a bank teller. Nevertheless, it all came back pretty quickly. I can’t check people out too quickly, but most folks are pretty understanding and don’t mind waiting. It’s not like we’re Wal Mart! I also ended up working a half day this Saturday because she was short-handed, and I didn’t mind at all. I was pretty tired though! It’s been a long time since I’ve kept up a pace like this, but I’m getting used to it.

The next update involves this table. The first Saturday that I worked, it sold for full price. I was thrilled!

I am very, very pleased with the dollar amount that I have sold this month. Now I am just ready for the volume to go up. I really need to clear out a lot of merchandise so that I can put out some holiday items.

Last week as we were traveling to our weekend getaway, we stopped to visit Driveway Man. As usual, his prices were really good, and now that he has gotten to know us, he will usually give us even a better deal. I bought a bunch of linens. This beautiful napkin is part of a round tablecloth and 4 napkin set that is just gorgeous and in good shape, great for this time of year.

There were 2 light blue napkins; one of them was covered with lipstick stains. I used Spray-n-Wash, soaked them, and they look great!

These ecru napkins are really pretty. There were only 3 of them.

There was only one April Cornell placemat, new with the tags. I hope I can find one on eBay someday to match it. I also purchased (not pictured) a small square pink tablecloth, which I gave to my mother-in-law. She likes to have pink for her Franciscan Desert Rose dishes. It had a few spots, but I think that she can get them out. Also not pictured is an oblong red tablecloth, ideal for the holidays. I will probably use it some, but I may sell it in my booth eventually.

Finally, I purchased 5 of these vintage Whitehall Colony glasses. He gave me an absolutely amazing price for all the linens plus the glasses. I was thrilled!

Do you remember the story of the brass candlestick? I thought that it would look great with black tapers for Halloween, but I had not been able to find any. My niece knew that I wanted some, so she found them for me at Hobby Lobby.

I used the same basic table as last week [see here for the details of each element]; I just changed up a few things. Instead of placing the napkins on the dinner plates, I scrunched them up and put them in the pumpkin/ghost napkin rings.

I removed the leaf dishes from the table, and I elevated the large jack-o-lantern on a cake stand.

I placed the candles in the candlestick, and I love them! This was exactly what I had in mind when I was hunting for black candles (except seeing the neighbor’s car out the window–sorry).

Love this table!

After eating our taco soup today {Heaven!}, I was ready to change up the kitchen table.

I started with these April Cornell placemats and topped them with my cream-colored Wedgwood plates.

For the next plate, I chose the Wal Mart BHG leaf plates. I looked at this year’s BHG fall plates in Wal Mart, and I don’t think that they are nearly as pretty as these. I am really glad that I got them a few years ago.

For the top layer, I had to pull out the Dollar General pots. I love these cute things!

I tried several napkins and ended up with the solid brown with the acorn napkin rings.

My everyday Chateau flatware looked the best.

So did my Dollar General goblets.

To continue the fall leaf theme on the plates, leaf salt and pepper shakers adorn each place setting.

The colors were perfect with these placemats.

I kept my table vignette simple, choosing the variegated green candle and a simple candlestick.

I scattered a few of my fall leaves and acorns around, and I was done.

I love this table, and I can’t wait to see what everyone else had done for fall.
