I actually do have some news to tell you about my booth at the flea market. The owner/manager likes to hire vendors to work, and she recently had some openings and asked if I would like to try it. I have committed to work one Saturday a month through Christmas (one Sat. per month takes care of our booth rent) and to be “on call” if anyone gets sick or has some other type of emergency.
After Christmas, I will reevaluate, but as of right now, I am thinking that I will continue. With only one Saturday a month committed, there will still be plenty of weekends left to visit my son in TN. Plus, the owner is a little short-handed right now, and most of the people who help her don’t want to work on Sat. I don’t mind doing it, so {for now} it has all worked out. A couple of weeks ago I worked my first Saturday. I had to learn the computer program, which did not take long. Taking payments and making change is not much of a problem for me, but it’s been over 20 years since I’ve been a bank teller. Nevertheless, it all came back pretty quickly. I can’t check people out too quickly, but most folks are pretty understanding and don’t mind waiting. It’s not like we’re Wal Mart! I also ended up working a half day this Saturday because she was short-handed, and I didn’t mind at all. I was pretty tired though! It’s been a long time since I’ve kept up a pace like this, but I’m getting used to it.
The next update involves this table. The first Saturday that I worked, it sold for full price. I was thrilled!
Do you remember this Fenton Silvercrest banana bowl? Sold!
Do you remember this Fiesta platter in rose? Sold!
How about this bowl? Sold!
I am very, very pleased with the dollar amount that I have sold this month. Now I am just ready for the volume to go up. I really need to clear out a lot of merchandise so that I can put out some holiday items.
Last week as we were traveling to our weekend getaway, we stopped to visit Driveway Man. As usual, his prices were really good, and now that he has gotten to know us, he will usually give us even a better deal. I bought a bunch of linens. This beautiful napkin is part of a round tablecloth and 4 napkin set that is just gorgeous and in good shape, great for this time of year.
There were 2 light blue napkins; one of them was covered with lipstick stains. I used Spray-n-Wash, soaked them, and they look great!
These ecru napkins are really pretty. There were only 3 of them.
There was only one April Cornell placemat, new with the tags. I hope I can find one on eBay someday to match it. I also purchased (not pictured) a small square pink tablecloth, which I gave to my mother-in-law. She likes to have pink for her Franciscan Desert Rose dishes. It had a few spots, but I think that she can get them out. Also not pictured is an oblong red tablecloth, ideal for the holidays. I will probably use it some, but I may sell it in my booth eventually.
Finally, I purchased 5 of these vintage Whitehall Colony glasses. He gave me an absolutely amazing price for all the linens plus the glasses. I was thrilled!
Do you remember the story of the brass candlestick? I thought that it would look great with black tapers for Halloween, but I had not been able to find any. My niece knew that I wanted some, so she found them for me at Hobby Lobby.
I used the same basic table as last week [see here for the details of each element]; I just changed up a few things. Instead of placing the napkins on the dinner plates, I scrunched them up and put them in the pumpkin/ghost napkin rings.
I removed the leaf dishes from the table, and I elevated the large jack-o-lantern on a cake stand.
I placed the candles in the candlestick, and I love them! This was exactly what I had in mind when I was hunting for black candles (except seeing the neighbor’s car out the window–sorry).
Love this table!
After eating our taco soup today {Heaven!}, I was ready to change up the kitchen table.
I started with these April Cornell placemats and topped them with my cream-colored Wedgwood plates.
For the next plate, I chose the Wal Mart BHG leaf plates. I looked at this year’s BHG fall plates in Wal Mart, and I don’t think that they are nearly as pretty as these. I am really glad that I got them a few years ago.
For the top layer, I had to pull out the Dollar General pots. I love these cute things!
I tried several napkins and ended up with the solid brown with the acorn napkin rings.
My everyday Chateau flatware looked the best.
So did my Dollar General goblets.
To continue the fall leaf theme on the plates, leaf salt and pepper shakers adorn each place setting.
The colors were perfect with these placemats.
I kept my table vignette simple, choosing the variegated green candle and a simple candlestick.
I scattered a few of my fall leaves and acorns around, and I was done.
I love this table, and I can’t wait to see what everyone else had done for fall.
So, at the risk of being corny, Happy Fall, Ya’ll! {Final update: I have not been back to Dollar Tree, but I offered to go for the Sunday School class to pick up some prizes for our church carnival. What a dummy!}
I like your new tables, Bev! Wherever did you find those cute leaf salt and pepper shakers? I’d love them for my Thanksgiving table! Congratulations on your new job!! Now you will understand why people say, ” I’m way busier in retirement than I was while I was working!” Rosie
The smaller set came from Family Dollar a few years ago, and I got the larger set at a thrift shop.
Beautiful table as usual! I am loving those adorable little green pots. What a cute idea. Happy to hear that you have sold some of your items recently. I love that table…so gorgeous! Have a wonderful week….Vicky

So happy that your booth is working out so well. Love your table.
You’re always welcome at Seasonal Sundays.

That sounds like a good deal work in exchange for rent. My October started off with huge sales and then dropped into deep despair, but you know how the resell business is – feast or famine. Love the linens you bought.
Love your tablescape and the candleabra! I love reading about vintage things and tablescapes.
Love the cream colored Wedgwood plates with the Walmart salad plates. The table looks charming. I had been thinking of putting a lot of my china out for consignment ( heaven knows I have enough to open a chain of stores). But when the lady at our consignment shop told me there was a 50/50 split on the sales I got cold feet about it. Maybe EBAY or an ETSY store would be a better option. Maybe next year….. Candy
So glad you had so many sales this week! That always feels great.
I love the napkins on the Halloween table. They are adorable. The little green pots are also so cute and reminded me of some I have that I need to dig out for fall. Don’t you just love it when you want to start making soup again?!!
You should do very well with your booth based on what you have shared. I have never had a booth, but enjoying going. I have enough stuff for one.
Bev,
This post brought back so many good memories for me. I used to have a booth in an antique mall. I did it for about 2 years before the economy went bellyup.. and I loved when I sold things..always was able to cover the rent and also to swap with some other vendors for some pretty pottery..Sounds like fun to work there occasionally. You will be able to see what the others bring in too…Hope your holiday season does well..
Love, Mona
I love the table that you sold. Congrats on selling lots and the new job, should be fun. Love the Halloween table with the black candles…Christine
You can’t go wrong with April Cornell linens, and this is another good example of why. The color connection between the leaf plates and the placement is lovely.
What a delightful autumn tablesetting! I love those cute little Dollar General green pots….they look adorable! And the pattern on the placemats is so pretty and perfect for a fall tablescape:) I’m so glad you could sell some of the things in your booth:) Happy weekend! Hugs, Poppy
So happy that your booth sales are picking up and working one Sat a month sounds like a good deal. Thanks for sharing your finds and great tablescape at TTF!
Have a happy and blessed week…

Bev, This is a beautiful table. I just love the way we can go from Wedgwood to Walmart with ease in creating a stunning table. I have similar leaf S&P shakers that I got at Walmart.
Love your napkins with the spiders.
